The station launched in November 2017 as part of the Philippines’ revamp of its government broadcast facilities.

Sonny B, who used to be at Red Hot Mix FM in Davao and Play FM is an appointee of Presidential Communications Operations Office Martin Andanar as the PBS Director General.

FM1 was chosen as the name as it is the first dial point in the country’s FM band. It is also a nod to BBC Radio 1 in the UK, being the official government station.

FM1 plays mostly foreign Top 40 or CHR songs, and select OPM songs that fit the format.

On May 9, 2018, the station closed its DJ hiring window notifying applicants that they are no longer accepting applications.

FM1 is again commercial free just like BBC Radio 1.
