WNCI 97.9 Columbus, Ohio, is one of the oldest running Top 40 stations in the US.

The station has a very colorful history, including one interesting fact — WNCI had once been an AC station.

It all began with WFRD FM in 1961 — a classical music station. It was in 1970, that the Top 40 WNCI was born.

However between 1979 and 1983, the station adapted an AC format with news, supposedly to compete with a NewsTalk station WTVN.

The inclination to AC again occured in 1993, this time in competition with Sunny 95, but then eventually returned being CHR.

Today, WNCI is among the most awarded stations with consecutive Top 40 Station of the Year Awards from 2005 to 2007. It’s among the most powerful radio station in America, broadcasting at 175,000 watts, a transmitter power that’s thrice than regularly allowed by FCC.

WNCI is home also to one of the oldest morning shows in America, the WNCI Morning ZOO. It’s been running for 20 years now.

The station currently airs jingles from ReelWorld ONE, click here to listen.
