Pandora Beats Z100 in NY Ratings

The online music service Pandora has released its initial set of terrestrial radio ratings.

It revealed that the website is attracting significant number of listeners in the Top 10 markets, especially the listeners aged 18 to 34 years old.

In New York particularly, Z100 and Hot 97 were beaten by Pandora, who got 0.7 of average quarterly hour rating in the said demo. More here

The online company published the report to entice more advertisers who are traditional radio media buyers.

“Radio is radio,” said Tim Westergren, Pandora’s founder. “Pandora is simply a smart buy for local advertisers as well as national ones.”

“Terrestrial radio engages with listeners in a unique way that Pandora cannot,” according to Deborah O’Rell of Urban Communications. “But those numbers are [good] enough to be considered.”

Z100 and all Clear Channel stations also amped up its online service iHeartRadio to counter Pandora. More here
