German Station Gets New Name, Jingles After 30 Plus Years

After having been known as DRS 3 for 30-something years, Swiss-German’s largest music station recently re-launched as SRF 3. And, naturally, with a re-launch comes a fresh new jingle package!

With close to 1.4 million listeners, the public broadcaster’s pop music station is the second largest in the German-speaking part ofSwitzerland. It plays a wide variety of music, from mainstream hits & classics during the day to Blues, Reggae and World Music during the specialist shows at night. For the daytime schedule, the new SRF3 needed a sound that reflects today’s music. “PURE Jingles was our number one choice for this”, says SRF’s Artistic Director Thomas Gloor.

Multi-layered

To set themselves apart from the competition, SRF 3 wanted anything BUT a neutral sounding AC package! They specifically asked for “multi-layered” IDs that combine music production with sung and spoken vocal parts – basically like PURE Jingles’ previous work for BBC Radio 1, only Pop-Rock oriented. And since the ‘3’ in the station name is being pronounced in different ways in different regions of Switzerland, the station provided the PURE producers with files from the station’s voice-overs reflecting several dialects.

Surprise

“It was key for us that the new elements would support our music flow, and make our station sound more as a whole”, says program manager Mario Torriani. “With this package by PURE Jingles, that turns out to work ‘surprisingly’ well.” The SRF 3 package features 12 custom-made jingle themes and includes additional versions & mix-outs for each and every one of them.
